Thank you to our friends at Disney for the awesome opportunity to design the main title sequence for “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place”! Live action directing, design, editorial and 3D animation added up to a lotta creative shenanigans on this very fun project. This is the tenth show we’ve worked on for The Disney Channel. We’ve had a lot of very amazing experiences with both production and executives there. We’re grateful that they’ve again entrusted Shine to design for this great new version of the network’s biggest broadcast brand.

“Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” brings us back to the magical world we fell in love with, but this time, there’s even more at stake.

The concept was based on magical mirrors. This first mirror is the centerpiece of the Wizard Lair.

characters appear as magical reflections in mirrors

In Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, mirrors serve as portals and magical communicators, connecting Alex Russo to different realms and other wizards. These enchanted mirrors allow Alex to seek guidance, spy on mystical happenings, or even transport herself to distant magical worlds, enhancing her adventures beyond the usual wizard training.

Magical mirrors reveal each character as a reflection.

characters interact with things from the Lair

The learning room is the Wizard Lair, a secret space behind the Sub Station’s freezer. Here, the kids train in magic, surrounded by spell books and magical artifacts.

As characters are revealed, artifacts from the Lair come to life playfully.

The camera motion is big and dramatic.

Some 3D props were modeled as original elements, and others were captured as lidar scans on set.

The counterforms of typography provided a dynamic transition from the cold open into act one.

live action shoot

Each character was shot on set to create a piece that provides an introduction that feels unique to the sequence while part of the show.

By shooting characters on green and blue screen, their performances were tailored to the sequence.
